Nu-Joint

The origins and efficacy of Nu-Joint
A personal search
Research physician Ed Petrus, M.D. discovered the formulation for Nu-Joint while seeking help for his arthritic knees. He found that relief with glucosamine was unpredictable and that chondroitin upset his stomach.

Studies showed that glucosamine assists in the production of new articular cartilage and inhibits cartilage-destroying enzymes.
1 A three-year study showed that subjects who took glucosamine had reduced symptoms and no loss of cartilage.2

Articular cartilage covers the ends of bones and acts as the body’s shock absorbers by cushioning the bones from weight bearing stress. As our body ages the ability to repair and produce cartilage declines.

A discovery leads to a patent
Research disclosed that nitric oxide, a naturally produced gas in the body, prevents glucosamine from making new cartilage
3 and breaks down cartilage.4 Increased levels of nitric oxide in the joint fluid of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients was noted to prevent chondrocytes, the cartilage producing cells, from making and repairing articular cartilage.5 Eliminating nitric oxide in the joint fluid was essential to producing and repairing joint cartilage. Dr. Petrus experimented with different mixtures of dietary ingredients and found a formulation that provided him relief from his arthritic symptoms and obtained a patent for his discovery.6

Max's story
During this time his 11 year old Weimaraner Max was noted to have difficulty lifting his leg to pee and had arthritic tenderness of the hips. Capsules of what would later become Nu-Joint were put into Max’s food and after ten days he was able to lift his leg without pain.
