Nu-Joint
Joint pain is usually the initial symptom of arthritis, the leading cause of disability in the United States. Forty million Americans, 15% of the population, have some form of arthritis. Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is the most common type of arthritis, shows thinning of the articular cartilage, affecting knees, hips, spine, finger, and base of the thumb and big toe.
Cartilage is the supporting structure of the body, but has no blood vessels, nerves or lymphatics, and consists of thick bundles of collagen which are woven to form the articular surface. Articular cartilage, which covers the ends of bones, acts as the body’s shock absorbers by cushioning the bones from weight bearing stress. As our body ages, the ability to repair and produce cartilage gradually declines.
When faced with the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, one has two choices, pain medication which mask the symptoms, or rebuilding the cartilage, the cause of the symptoms. Chondrocytes (cartilage making cells) obtain glucosamine from the subchondral blood vessels and make new cartilage. Glucosamine from food and supplements stimulates the production of building blocks for cartilage. About 90% of oral glucosamine is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, but only 7% of chondroitin is absorbed. Many studies question the value of chondroitin. Nu-Joint does not contain chondroitin. Many persons who tried glucosamine, without benefit, did not realize that nitric oxide in the joint fluid prevented glucosamine from making new cartilage.
Nitric oxide, a naturally produced gas in the body, is found in increased levels in the joint fluid of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients. Nitric oxide prevents glucosamine from making new cartilage, and breaks down existing cartilage. Eliminating nitric oxide in the joint fluid is essential to producing and repairing joint cartilage. Nu-Joint® is the only patented glucosamine product that is formulated to reduce nitric oxide production.
Natural agents that reduce nitric oxide production include; niacinamide, a form of the B vitamin niacin, resveratrol and zinc. Resveratrol is a naturally occurring antioxidant is found in grapes. Zinc is an anti-inflammatory agent that stimulates bone formation, prevents osteoporosis and inhibits nitric oxide production.
Additional agents include MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) a sulfur containing supplement that has anti-inflammatory benefits. Vitamin C helps with the production of collagen and removes free radicals that are harmful to cartilage. N-Acetylcysteine is an amino acid with anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and cartilage protective benefits. Magnesium and boron helps build new bone.
Nu-Joint® is available in bottles of 90 and 180 capsules. Dosage is based on body weight and is taken daily with meals.
